Abstract
We report a case of brain metastases from esophageal carcinoma. A 53-year-old man presented with weakness and numbness in the left arm. Systemic chemotherapy had been performed for the treatment of stomach carcinoma and esophageal carcinoma. Brain magnetic resonance images revealed two solid mass in the right parietal and the left occipital lobe. The mass was totally resected through two craniotomies. Histological examination revealed squamous cell carcinoma, which was identical to the pathology of esophageal carcinoma. The postoperative course was uneventful and the patient¡¯s motor weakness was recovered. Additionally, whole brain radiation was given. Although brain metastases from esophageal carcinoma are very rare, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of brain metastases in a patient with gastrointestinal tract cancers.
